Q: I need you to explain the membership concept because if I want to be a volunteer and I am not to be paid, why should I pay to do it?

A: NGO participation usually entails some volunteer work; and that is why even bigger NGO’s have categories of memberships. A Volunteer needs to be a member; for the simple reason that, NGO participation adds value to a person’s status and resume; and, not all volunteers will have the opportunity to donate services, as some will rather cash their services.

You may however, choose to donate services in addition to your membership fees. This is the fulcrum of allegiance on which prominent NGO’s have been known to stand the test of time. The membership also helps to ‘win’ the commitment of the volunteer; while in return it confers added advantage to the volunteer. In addition to financial membership, volunteers may offer ‘in-kind’ services.

The membership drive is to enable the Volunteer to be truly involved in the activities of the organisation by improving the bottom-line and truly contributing to human kind. It also helps to generate income for sustainability. In addition, you shall be entitled to several benefits including training (internal and external), travels, esteem-building, networking and mentoring as well as collaborative sessions with other LWI members; an indeed diverse population – Individual and corporate.
