The Grand Finale of GHB2015 was flagged off by the Chairman of the day, Hon PermSec Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr Jemilade Longe ably represented by Dr Olumide Sojinrin. Among schools and institutions that were represented on the “Education and Innovation Day” were UNICEF, Covenant University, Oworonshoki High School, Healthcare Federation of Nigeria HFN, Department of International Development DFID Nigeria, Corona Secondary School, New Era Girls’ High School, Broadway International Schools, Muslim Senior School Oworonshoki.
The theme for Day 3 was ‘Learning, Relearning and Unlearning as Key Tools for True Re-Emergence of the World Economy’. Director Education Lagos State Mr Yomi Abolaji, representative of the Hon PermSec Lagos State Ministry of Education District IV Mrs Derin Soname delivered the first keynote address. Mr Abolaji explained the importance of education in the world economy; identifying that not just learning is important but it is equally important to relearn and unlearn when necessary.
The Regional Director Department of International Development DFID Nigeria Dr Sina Fagbenro-Bryon spoke on the need for constant learning and education to keep up with modern trends. The Chief Guest of Honour Head/Education Specialist UNICEF Lagos Mrs Justina Onifade In her keynote address expressed that the current Nigerian school systems needs to emphasize the concept of unlearning and relearning for knowledge acquisition. The Vice Chancellor Covenant University Prof Ayo Babalola ably represented by Dr Olawanle Daramola in his speech described Covenant University as a pace setter in the education sector especially in e-learning experiences.
After the plenary presentations, a Debate on ‘Eat Well, Live Well’ and the Final Round of the Discourse/Schools’ Essay Competition took place. The Head/Education Specialist UNICEF Lagos Mrs Justina Onifade was appointed as the Chief Judge and led the Panel of Judges made up of the Director Education Lagos State Mr Yomi Abolaji, Health Adviser Shell SPDC Dr Yinka Mosuro and HR/Admin Associate Megacare Group Ltd Mrs Eyimofe Onifade.
Muslim Senior School Oworonshoki emerged as winners of the debate and essay competition tagged Eat Well, Live Well’ out of 60 schools who contested.
Several gifts were donated to the winning and participating School as well as to the GHB2015 attendees by the Principal Partners Sealy Nigeria/Mouka Ltd, Oando Plc, Chellarams Plc, Bellafricana, GSK Consumer makers of Ribena and Lucozade Boost, Dana Group, Association of Lady Pharmacists ALPS, UAC Foods, among others.
