LWI in collaboration with GTBank marks World Hypertension Day

Hypertension is a condition called high blood pressure during which the arterial blood pressure raises to high level from the normal level (120/80 mmHg) .It is medical condition called the “silent killer” and as it does not show any symptoms until the severe and advanced stages , however severe hypertension show some symptoms of headaches, sleepiness, palpitation, blurred vision, fatigue, dizziness, confusion, ringing sensation in the ears, breathing difficulty, irregular heartbeat which may lead to even coma.

According to WHO 46% of adults aged 25 and above suffer from Hypertension in Nigeria. Every May 17th, the World Health Organization joins the global community to commemorate World Hypertension Day (WHD) as an opportunity to emphasize the need to work on the prevention and control of hypertension, in order to prevent deaths from cardiovascular diseases.

GTBank marked the WHD 2017 by organizing a Blood Pressure Screening exercise for its drivers at its Oniru chieftaincy Estate branch Victoria Island Lagos and its branch at Town Planning way Ilupeju Lagos.from the 17th-19th May 2017.

Each participant was screened for: Stress (using the bio-feedback card), and Blood Pressure. Goodie bags containing Vitamins and supplements were distributed to the participants and they also got health counselling from the LWI Team.

Participants turned out in large numbers from all over Lagos State Island or the screening program and nearly 100 staffers were screened cumulatively over the 3-day program.
