The first Patient Solidarity Day (PSD) of the International Alliance of Patients Organisations IAPO, was marked in different African nations on Wednesday 30th October 2013.
Here in Nigeria, the LiveWell Initiative LWI, an IAPO Associate Member, marked the PSD2013 Celebration in partnership with Osun State Government, Federal Ministry of Health OAU Teaching Hospital Wesley Guild Ilesha, The Methodist Cathedral Otapete Ilesha, and Dr Ezekiel Adekunle Ifaturoti Memorial Health Mission, in Ilesha, Osun State Nigeria on wednesday October 30th 2013.
The programme, fully run by LWI, was flagged off by the Honourable Commissioner of Health Osun State, Dr (Mrs) Temitope Ilori, ably represented by the Hon PermSec Health Osun State, Dr Olaoye.
The community health outreach was very impactful, as people turned out in hundreds. Over 1,000 adults were attended to, and over 300 children were dewormed. Anti-malarials and Haematinics were dispensed to the women and children by the 20-man LWI Health Team. In addition to the LWI Experts, nurses pharmacists and doctors from the Wesley Guild Hospital joined in the Mission. The outcome was very impactful and the people pleaded for more.
The Voice of the Patient needs to be heard, through future PSD programmes of this nature.
