Health literacy is very low in Nigerian Society. The problem is
more compelling when visualized from the fact that health-illiteracy
in this society has no direct relationship to educational
attainment or socio-demographic status. The painful consequences
of the low health-literacy include, diminished life expectancy,
avoidable deaths, and increased morbidity and mortality.
To improve the
health status of the people through
wellness promotion and
health-empowerment and thereby
positively influence their
health-seeking behavior.
To halve
health-illiteracy in Nigeria by the
year 2030; and to increase the life
expectancy of Nigerians to 70 by the
year 2030.
